Welcome to Pferdehof Thomayer in Strasswalchen!
We moved into this farm with our horses and donkeys in August 2021. At that time, it had not been a working farm for the past 3 years. For us, this marked the start of our “careers” as horse farmers.
Due to our training in equestrian pedagogy and riding therapy, the main focus here on our farm is living with and around horses – also in our daily work. In summer, of course, hay production is on our schedule, too. After all, hay is the main fodder eaten by our animals!

We offer individual riding lessons as well as therapeutic horseback riding. That said, our programs also include freework, basic groundwork, as well as daily interactions with the horses.

People with special needs are also sincerely welcome here with us. Our ground-floor apartment is likewise suitable for people with restricted mobility.

Summer and winter – here with us, it’s always high season!

In summer, you will discover several swimming lakes close by, the nearest being Irrsee (5 min), inviting you to enjoy a refreshing dip and participate in a wide range of water sports. On Mondsee meanwhile, you can embark on a wonderful cruise of the lake, or perhaps rent an electric boat or rowing boat. And naturally, you can also go hiking or mountaineering in the surrounding countryside. Furthermore, our farm lies right on the network of cycle paths that crisscross Upper Austria and Salzburg. Including the Trumer Lakes Tour, Silent Night Tour and Bajuwarii Tour, to name but a few.
If you don’t want to forego culture, we are likewise the perfect choice for you: the Salzburg Festival, Mondsee Jedermann, Street Theater in July and August, concerts, etc. We are also more than happy to help you pick up tickets for all kinds of events.

Here with us, you can unwind completely in winter as well – with opportunities that include Advent markets, strolls through the countryside, downhill and cross-country skiing, and much more. Needless to say, you can enjoy horseback riding or a carriage ride in winter, too.

Simply leave your car safely parked during your holiday.
Our farm is very conveniently located close to public transportation. The suburban railway (“S-Bahn”) will bring you to Salzburg or Linz on an hourly basis. The stop for the S-Bahn is barely a 12-minute walk away. We will even be happy to provide you with shuttle service. Meanwhile, there is hourly bus service to Strasswalchen and Mondsee. The bus stop is just 2 minutes from our farm.
If you have some flexibility timewise, you can use an app to book a personal ride with the Mondsee taxis.

Depending on the time of year, guests are welcome to lend us a hand making our farm products.

Living on our farm are 9 horses measuring from 90 cm to 154 cm at the withers. Our oldest is a Lipizzaner mare named Andrassa who, sadly, was way overworked in riding schools and can now no longer be ridden. That said, she loves to “play along” with children and adults doing groundwork, and is happy to participate in horse-assisted coaching activities. Our grande dame, Haflinger mare Amelie, was the very first horse we ever owned. She is very “chatty” and will happily participate in a session of kaffeeklatsch for hours on end. She loves to be needed and play a part in therapy – especially with older people. Our lads, Emil (a Fjord horse), Prisi (Hucul), Goldy (Haflinger-Icelandic mix) and Ferdinand (pony) are a fun, though very well-behaved bunch, who are always on their very best behavior for their riders. Prisi and Emil are the “chaps” you can always rely on. Our Shetland pony Schlumpfine is right there for our littlest children and wheelchair users. She loves her work and being the center of attention. We shouldn’t forget Jenny, our 110 cm pony, either. She might not be the fastest, but she is ultra-dependable in the open countryside or pulling a carriage.

Our donkeys Benjamin and Erwin are as cool and laid-back as they come. You will find them wherever there are people and they adore being groomed and stroked.

Our rabbits Winny and Hoppel simply love to be visited, especially if you come with a few dandelions, carrots or a handful of hay. They will then settle down close to the children and adults, quietly munching on their snacks.

Our family also has two royal poodles that aren’t always here at the farm. They are both young and very much the clowns of our animal family.
