Alpbach - Austria’s Most Picturesque Village
The traditional timber houses and farms in Alpbach are charming, rustic and beautifully decorated. It’s a very special atmosphere here, in this small village. The villages in the surroundings are dotted with lovely farm houses and boast a range of activities such as skiing in the ski resort “Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau”, hiking along the river Brandenberger Ache or swimming in natural lakes. Everything’s so close! Get the free guest card “Alpbachtal Card” in your accommodation.

What’s so special here?
-
In Alpbach, more than 20 farms are designated “Erbhöfe”. No other municipality in Tyrol boasts such a great amount of old-established family farms. Only farms that are run by the same family for at least 200 years receive this distinction. In Alpbach, those farms have been in the hands of the same family for more than 300 years on average. That’s beyond comparison!
-
An unrivalled abundance of water is another characteristic of Alpbach. Thanks to the premium water quality, Alpbach has been named “Kristallgemeinde Österreich” (“crystal municipality Austria”) by the Seibersdorf Laboratories, being the first of its kind in the entire country.
-
The local cuisine in Alpbach has plenty of sweet treats in store. For example, the delicious “Melchermus” (a sweet and very hearty type of pancake). It used to be a classic dish in the farm houses, especially for the farm labourers who had to work hard on the farm and in the fields.
The region’s traditional architecture is special and draws lots of visitors to Alpbach. As for myself, I love the river Brandenberger Ache, especially on a hot summer’s day!
