About Us
Welcome to our organic mountain farm “Hasentrattner” at 1,300 m above sea level!
Immerse yourself in pure nature in the heart of the Nockberge mountains. Find our farm surrounded by an outstanding natural scenery composed of mountains, green meadows, forests and clean air. Our farm is the one highest up in Kaning, a hamlet consisting of mountain farms. Set in the Nockberge mountains, our premises are at the border to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve “Nockberge”. Far away from traffic noise and all the hustle and bustle, relaxation and recreation starts immediately upon your arrival.
“The view is like looking down from an airplane”, a guest once said. And he’s right. The panorama is beyond compare with views spanning across the mountains to Slovenia and Italy. This place invites you to stay and marvel at the beauty of nature.
There’s no TV - on purpose! After all, a holiday means spending time with the family, time to talk, play, laugh and escape from everyday life.
Our farm is the ideal starting point for discovering Carinthia’s most beautiful spots and attractions.
Small and large animals live on our farm: cattle, goats, pigs, chicken, ponies and a small dog. We milk our cows and goats twice a day. From the milk, we produce a set of culinary delights that you can try at breakfast. We bake fresh bread at least twice a week. Whether they’re young or old, our guests are welcome to join us when we’re milking our animals or baking bread.
About Us
The farmers, Natascha and Andreas, welcome you to our organic mountain farm “Hasentrattner”.
We offer two holiday apartments called “Rabbit’s Nest” and “Cuckoo’s Nest”.
Our holiday apartments offer high-quality comfort, also in winter. Thanks to the floor heating in the entire apartment, you can warm yourselves up after a long day spent in the snowy outdoors.
It’s only a 15 minutes’ drive to the ski resort Bad Kleinkirchheim. In this village, there are two spas where you can find relaxation.
You can go on sleigh rides or snowshoeing trails directly from our farmhouse.
We process all the milk from our cows and goats. We produce yoghurt, curd cheese, white cheese, soft cheese and hard cheese. Thanks to the fact that our animals are outside on the pastures throughout the whole year, breathe clean air every day and are fed with grass and high-quality hay from the mountain pastures only, our products taste particularly good.
We also have fresh eggs from our Sundheim chicken, home-made sausages and bacon as well as freshly baked, home-made bread.
We raise native breeds of livestock. Some of these heritage breeds are threatened by extinction. Day by day, not only wildlife and plants become extinct on our planet Earth, but also livestock breed that do not meet the criteria set by industrial agriculture and a consumer-oriented economy.
Rare breeds such as Hinterwald cattle, Swabian-Hall swine and Sundheim chicken call our farm their home. Although it’s not a rare goat breed, the Saanen goats have been raised as traditional dairy goats since the 18th century. Our two ponies Balu and Mimi and our dog Lilly are always looking forward to a bit of tender loving care.
