At the very heart of the Vulkanland region of south-east Styria, surrounded by lush greenery, is the Krispel gourmet estate. This family-run business has been producing outstanding wines and other fine produce of exceptional quality for two generations. With their vast experience and in close partnership with nature, it is the aim of the Krispels to infuse in purest form the flavours and the wonderful quality of life of their region in what they produce.
It is also possible to immerse yourself in the world of the Krispels for longer. So when the sun goes down, there is no need to hurry home. You can stay here in one of our seven recently renovated guest rooms and relax. And enjoy to the full the delights offered by our Genusstheater. Get a good night’s sleep. The woolly pig, otherwise known as the Mangalitsa, is a 300-year-old breed with a thick coat of curly hair. It was introduced to Austria from its original home in the former Austro-Hungarian empire.
Its unusual coat consists of bristles together with hairs – hence the name. The woolly pig is known to have a high percentage of lard – 70% – in its body that contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
Those at the Krispel estate achieve an age three times that of pigs that are usually fattened for the table. Particular emphasis is placed on their welfare here. Woolly pigs are very social animals and can be visited during the Wine and Woolly Pig Tour.
