We produce a wide range of products. You can take the products directly from our 24 h self-catering refrigerator. For the self-set breakfast table there is a daily bread delivery service.
We live sustainability and are certified with the Land Green Seal

Thanks to regional building materials, particularly extensive cultivation, our own wood chip heating instead of gas or oil and electricity from our solar system, you can enjoy a relaxed and environmentally conscious vacation with us. We have renewable corn charcoal for your barbecue, a soda stream for your sparkling mineral water from our own spring and an electric car charging station.

Vacation in the castle - anything else is ordinary, especially if cows, goats and many other animals frolic around at the meadow around the historical building. The Rieder family is welcoming you for a relaxing and family-friendly vacation on the farm in Zell am See - Kaprun. You dwell directly in the castle, one of the oldest buildings in Pinzgau, in comfortable and roomy apartments with traditional aura and modern amenities.

Start your day with a rich breakfast with homemade farm products from a self-service fridge (24 hours open) or the bread service by your hosts. Collect your daily breakfast egg directly from the hens nests and enjoy a healthy glass of milk. That is pure nature. Numerous services ameliorate your vacation on the farm in Maishofen. Together with cozy wellness relaxation and much room for families you experience the unique enjoyment of hearty and personal service. On our farm children may look behind the scenes and get involved. The animals are waiting to get fed and caressed.

One of the best features of the Saalhof Castle is its picturesque standalone location between gentle grassy hills and steep mountains. Beautiful skiing resorts and hiking trails are just a few minutes from the castle. In the winter, three ski resorts, numerous cross-country skiing trails and a diverse programme are available for every taste.

Take a break from the daily routine in our modern wellness-area.
Relax and enjoy the warmth in our two outside "Sauna Barrels", our infrared-sauna for 4 persons or our classical Finnish sauna for 10 persons.
Our relaxation room and terrace are fitted with sunloungers made out of massive natural wood and are directly nearby the outside Sauna facilities.
The large picture window offers a great view of the "Hohe Tauern" National Park

Our ski regions:

- Ski circus Saalbach-Hinterglemm,

- Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See (5 minutes away)

- and the glacial skiing region in Kaprun by Kitzsteinhorn (15 minutes away).

The free ski bus will pick you up from your house door.

Or you can directly enter the extensive network of cross-country ski tracks next to our farmyard. Even the toboggan run adds to the whole winter fun time.

Our products from the 24h self-service farm fridge: cheese, 14 different jams and jellies, syrup, honey, schnapps and liqueurs, smoked ham / bacon, apple juice, ... yum, that tastes twice as good!

Our tipp for early birds: Collect your daily brekfast egg directly from the hen´s nests every morning at 8 am with our grandma.

Beef and veal in 5 or 10kg packages are available on request once per month.

Our fresh milk is always free of charge for our guests: Please take the glass jug from your fridge and get the milk yourself from the stable after a short briefing.

The fresh herbs from our garden can be taken for your healthy daily dinner.

In each apartment there is a soda stream to bubble up our mountain spring water directly from the tap. We are happy to change empty gas cartridges at any time.

This is a further contribution to sustainability to avoid plastic bottles. We also sell syrups diluted 1:7: lemon balm, elderflower, homemade cola syrup from the colast bush in our garden, golden balm. Just bubble your own cola or soda.

Our animals:

20 Cows, calves, 15 chickens, the cat Mietzie, the goat Loisi with her young and the rabbits Strolchi, Punkti, Flecki and Blacky. The cows and calves, rabbits and goats, are happy if you help the farmers with spreading hay, feeding, or milking!

The daily egg collection is an attraction! The young animals graze on our alpine meadow at an altitude of 1400-2000 m and are visited once a week by everyone in July and August! Register to our weekly alpine hike immediately after your arrival!

You can choose between the Moar and castle saunas, which can be reserved exclusively for 2 hours each. Tingling sauna pleasure awaits you here.

Castle sauna "Schlosssauna": Take a break from everyday life in our modern wellness area with a high-quality mix of glass, concrete and wood and floating loungers. Enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains from the panoramic window. Outside, a finnish sauna barrel and an infrared barrel await you.

Chalet Moarhaus sauna "Moarsauna" in the basement of the Moarhaus Chalet: A Finnish sauna barrel with wellness loungers awaits you here. Immerse yourself in the grounding, rustic atmosphere and enjoy the cosy warmth. The Moarsauna can be used exclusively when booking the entire Chalet Moarhaus.

Bathrobe packages with bathrobe and sauna towel can be hired.

Our freelance masseur, who can be booked for massages on Thursdays and Fridays, provides the ultimate in relaxation.

In the garden there is a cosy relaxation area with hammocks between the trees for those seeking relaxation.

Our castle suites and flats in the Moarhaus are characterised by a high-quality material mix of old wood and solid wood from our forest, stone, glass and the craftsmanship of hand-crafted furniture.

Feel-good kitchens with branded appliances and handmade from solid wood by a carpenter and state-of-the-art bathrooms with walk-in showers and high-quality washbasins and many extravagant details leave nothing to be desired.

Coming from the A8 Munich – Salzburg , take the Traunstein exit and drive just under 60 kilometers of country road via Lofer in the direction of Zell am See.
Alternatively via the Inntalautobahn A93 /A8 Munich- Innsbruck exit Oberaudorf- Walchsee- Kössen – Schwendt- St. Johann in Tirol- Erpfendorf- Waidring-Lofer-Saalfelden- direction Zell am See
From the A1 Vienna – Salzburg , take the Bad Reichenhall exit in Germany
Approx. 2 km before Zell am See take the Maishofen/Saalbach-Hinterglemm exit, traffic circle first exit to Maishofen and turn right immediately after the town sign “Maishofen” to our farm “Schloss Saalhof”

By car from the south:

Via the Brenner Pass: Brennero – Innsbruck, exit Wörgl – St. Johann – Saalfelden – Maishofen.
Via the Tauernautobahn coming from Villach, exit Bischofshofen – Zell am See – Maishofen
Shortest route via country roads: Udine – Tolmezzo – Lienz – Matrei in Osttirol – Felbertauern – Mittersill – Zell am See – Maishofen
Approx. 2 km after Zell am See, take the Maishofen exit to the right. Immediately after the town sign for Maishofen, turn right to our farm.

By car from the west:

Innsbruck – Exit Wörgl – St. Johann – Saalfelden – Maishofen

Arriving by train Train station in Maishofen, Zell am See or Saalfelden;

If traveling by train , the nearest train station is in Maishofen- Saalbach (train station is 5 walking minutes away from the castle) or a bigger one in Zell am See, buses run regularly to Maishofen. The nearest bus stop is Maishofen Abzweigung Glemmtal, just 50 m from Schloss Saalhof.

All year round all buses and trains in Salzburg are free of charge with the guest card!

Arriving by plane: Salzburg Airport; daily airport shuttle bus to Zell am See; from there a free transfer to the castle.

Salzburg Airport is 76 km away, just over an hour’s drive from Schloss Saalhof.
The nearest international airport in Munich is 206 km away, 2:36 hours by car.

From Salzburg Airport, the public busline no. 260 goes to Maishofen in the direction of Zell am See, price is approx. € 14,-, bus stop: Maishofen junction Glemmtal, Schloss Saalhof is only 50 m from the bus stop.

A private airport shuttle bus runs regularly from Salzburg and Munich airports to Maishofen and Zell am See.
