About Us
NEW! From 2023 farm vacations at Schwalbahof in Frastanz.
There where the swallows fly in summer and the far view over the Walgau is gigantic. Welcome to the Schwalbahof in Frastanz-Gampelün in the Lake Constance region in Vorarlberg.
Schwalba? Yes, that's the swallows. The songbirds with sensitive hearing and the typical forked tail. It is precisely these passerine birds that gave the farm its name.
And otherwise at the Schwalbahof? Relaxing on the south-facing balcony or in the garden, tasting through the variety of berries, enjoying the scent of garden herbs or enjoying a farm-fresh piece of meat on the grill. That sounds like a joyful stay in the countryside.
Surrounded by meadows, pastures and forests, it is not difficult to switch off from everyday life. Be it walking and strolling or sportive hiking. Gar mountain bike or racing bike tours are possible directly from the Schwalbahof. The Landesradweg also leads you comfortably by bike along the rivers Ill or/and Rhine to the Montafon, the Klostertal, to Feldkirch or even to Switzerland or Lake Constance.
For families with children, the farm offers plenty of space and room to develop. Just as within walking distance is the soccer field with attached playground.
Are you interested in culture and history? We are pleased. The nearby cities from Bludenz to Feldkirch to Dornbirn to the festival city of Bregenz on Lake Constance, which are excellently accessible by public transport, have so much to offer.
I am looking forward to your stay at Schwalbahof.

Schwalba? Yes, that's the swallows. The songbirds with sensitive hearing and the typical forked tail. It is precisely these passerine birds that gave the farm its name.
And what else about the Schwalbahof? Enjoying the warming rays of the winter sun on the south-facing balcony, making a fire in the garden or actively helping with the work in the barn and on the farm. That sounds like a joyful stay in the countryside.
Surrounded by nature, it is not difficult to switch off from everyday life. Whether it's a winter walk along the quiet roads, snowshoeing through the surrounding fields, or even heading high up into the mountains with your touring skis strapped on.
In order to learn skiing or snowboarding, the ski lifts Gurtis-Bazora, which can be reached in a few minutes by bus, are excellent. If you want to go higher, Walgau is well situated to spend skiing days in Laterns, Brandnertal, Großen Walsertal, Montafon or on the Arlberg.
Directly up the hill at the house and you can go down again with the toboggan or the slide. Fun for all.
Katharina Gaßner
As a trained cook and butcher, Katharina refines the raw materials from the farm and from the kitchen garden, which makes self-sufficiency possible to a high degree. Just as with the farm store the guests can enjoy farm specialties and products directly from the producer.
- In the farm store directly at the Schwalbahof you can get
- raw milk from the cow
- Eggs from free-range chickens
- jams made from various fruits
- Syrups with fruit and herbs from the garden
- Cheese directly from the alp
- mountain butter
- high-proof noble brandies
- sweet liqueurs
- meat and sausages (seasonal)
- various dairy products (seasonal)
In summer, the snack garden in front of the house offers a variety of fresh berries, fruits and vegetables.
In the center of Frastanz (2.7 kilometers) you can get all groceries and daily necessities at the local grocery store. Within a five-kilometer radius there are also restaurants and inns to indulge in culinary delights.
Mother Auguste and daughter Katharina with partner and children run the farm, which was rebuilt after a fire, with full commitment and passion.
"I like to show very practically at work as a farmer's wife here what runs on the enterprise farm."
Schwalbahof an animal-keeping family farm in the third generation
with about 75 head of cattle, including 30 dairy cows as well as young cattle, oxen and calves.
You are welcome to help with the barn work all year round, try your hand at milking, assist with feeding the animals, lend a hand in the fields, ride along on the tractor, help with fencing on the pasture, feed the calves or screw on the machine that needs repairing. Participate and experience farm work up close.
Some animals spend the summer from the beginning of May to the end of October on the alpine pastures - Fraxner Maisäß, Parpfienz, Nenzinger Himmel, Palüd and Gavadura-Bazora or on the pastures around the farm. In addition, pigs are kept in the stables during this time. Just as there are still suckling calves and dairy cows on the farm.
The chickens and cats are all year round directly at the Schwalbahof in Frastanz. Have you ever taken a still warm egg directly from the chicken coop as a breakfast egg? Possible at Schwalbahof.
"Animal welfare and health as well as the sustainable management of the biodiversity areas as well as the multi-cut meadows is a matter close to my heart."
