About Us
Our Location
The Unterkoller Hof lies at roughly 880 meters above sea level, in Bischofshofen above the Mühlbachtal valley. Our farm can be reached in summer as well as winter via a well-maintained paved road. Snow chains are required in winter!
The Unterkoller Hof captivates visitors with its stand-alone location and magical views of the Mühlbachtal, a valley of endless forests, often shrouded in mist. Due to our location on the sunny side of the valley, you are actually able to enjoy many hours of sunshine, from early morning until late in the evening.
The farm and its history
The original farmhouse fell victim to a fire back in 1918. From that time on, residents of the farm lived in a small grain shed. In 2021, a completely new farmhouse was built, right along with a new grain shed.
The adjacent barn from 1855 was likewise gutted, renovated, modernized and expanded. Nonetheless, we were committed to preserving as much of the original as possible. The result of our efforts is a virtually self-sustaining farm with water from its own spring, sewage purification by means of our own bio treatment plant, and an independent emergency power supply.
Today’s Unterkoller Hof is home to 30 ewes, a donkey, our farmyard cats, and sometimes also calves or goats.
Since the farm is operated as a sideline, your hosts are not constantly at the farm and you can enjoy your peace & quiet without fear of interruption. But if ever your hosts are needed, they can be at the farm in a matter of minutes!
The farmhouse and the grain shed
You will be staying either in the newly built farmhouse or in the grain shed, the “Troadkasten”, nestled between fields, shrubs and fruit trees. Enjoy the detached location, the tranquility and the magical views.
When we constructed the two buildings, whenever possible we worked with natural building materials in order to create a healthy room climate for our guests. The wooden structural elements are predominantly made from native larch, as are the interior fittings. The bedroom furniture is made of pine, however, for an especially solid night’s sleep. The kitchen counters have stone countertops and all the floors are laid with stoneware tiles.
The buildings themselves are constructed from reinforced concrete and wood-fiber crossbeams with a concrete core and integrated mineral-wool insulation, windows with triple glazing and larch wood, while the window benches, both interior and exterior, are made of stone.
Sports and Recreation
Due to our location at the foot of the Hochkönig massif, you have direct access to many different hiking paths, the Copper Theme Path and the Miners’ Trail, for your hikes, mountain bike tours as well as ski tours. In winter, you have direct access to a ski tour leading to the top of the Hochkeil, along with several others continuing from there.
Our business was awarded the Farm Holidays “Premium Mountain Hut” seal of quality.
Become our guest and enjoy a premium group or family holiday at our hill farm!
We look forward to seeing you here!
