Spring: Our farm Wenzelhof is set in a picturesque high-altitude valley in the nature paradise of Carinthia. Three kilometres of road lead you up the mountain from the village centre of Metnitz. Look forward to a private holiday home on a sunny forest glade right next to our farmhouse. In March and April the snow begins to melt and the meadows and forests surrounding the house turn lush green. All the plants leave and sprout. Seeing nature awake is a very special experience, year after year.

Easter at our farm Wenzelhof: Be part of traditional Carinthian Easter festivities. On Holy Thursday, we start preparing for Easter by dying eggs. The consecration of meat on Holy Saturday is a local custom. All the delights that will be eaten at Easter are brought to the church in Metnitz in a willow basket covered with a special embroidered cloth and are consecrated by the local priest. This makes the delicacies of our local cuisine taste even better. Don’t miss out on a piece of sweet “Reindling”, a Bundt cake filled with cinnamon and honey, and savour hearty ham with horseradish. When it gets dark, it’s time for wonderful old customs. We light the Easter fire which can be seen from all over the valley. On Easter Sunday, the Easter Bunny is an important guest. It’s worth looking for the nests that he has hidden somewhere on the farm. After a wonderful Easter snack platter, egg tapping is a must. Who wins? Great fun for all ages!

Summer: Forests and meadows surround our farm and invite you to set out on a country walk or hike. There’s an abundance of colourful wild flowers on the meadow. Our cows love them! Take your children and experience farm life at first-hand. Join us when we work in the barn and help us make butter and cheese. Or simply relax while your kids romp and play on the playground. In the village of Metnitz (1.5 km from the farm), there’s a newly built natural swimming pond with an adjacent lawn for sunbathing. Plenty of other lakes and leisure activities are easily accessible from our farm Wenzelhof. Visit Carinthia’s most popular attractions such as “Minimundus”, a miniature world at Lake Wörthersee, countless castles and fortresses, the world of fairytales or one of the many summer toboggan runs. A traditional group hike: “Kustagehn” on the first Saturday in August is a special highlight. The families from the neighbouring farms and our guests set out on the traditional hike up the mountain Kusta. A nice social event! We also have a snack together in a mountain cabin.

Autumn: Mushrooming is an absolute must-do in autumn. We rather say “finding mushrooms” instead of “looking for mushrooms” because in our forests, there’s an abundance of beautiful yellow chanterelles. Every walk is a win. Chanterelles taste especially good if you’ve found them yourself and eat them with eggs and home-made bread. Autumn is the most beautiful time of the year for long hikes in our high-altitude valley. The sun is still mild and casts its golden hue on the forests and trees that slowly change colour.

And winter: Our farm is set at 1,100 m above sea level. It’s quite sure to find snow here in winter. Walk in the snow-covered winter wonderland, go tobogganing or set out on a hike - the crisp and clean air makes outdoor activities especially worthwhile! The perfectly groomed ski slopes at Hochrindl and Turrach are easily accessible by car. There, you can go alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski touring and cross-country skiing. Farm life in winter also has great activities in store: Join us when we work in the barn and help us make butter and cheese. Or simply relax while your kids engage in an epic snow ball fight or build a snowman. Dark, mystical nights in the Metnitztal valley. According to an old legend, the cows in the barn can talk around the Twelve Days of Christmas. Kuhnigunde, the most beautiful cow on our farm Wenzelhof, will be happy to tell your fortune at New Year’s Eve. In case it doesn’t work out, you can get to know more about the year to come while you cast tin with your hosts after a delicious fondue. The first morning of the new year will start with a hearty and delicious breakfast. Don’t miss out on a fun-filled toboggan ride in the moonlight and a torch-lit walk with the snow crunching beneath your feet.
