About Us
Our organic farm is located on the outskirts of Salzburg, on a green meadow surrounded by woods and streams. Many lakes such as the Wallersee, Mattsee or the Fuschlsee in the beautiful Salzkammergut can be reached in a few minutes by car. Here with us you can relax in the garden or get active with one of the many leisure activities.
Our small organic farm is home to Carniolan stone sheep, grazing geese, chickens and, in summer, calves on the pastures. Everything grows a little slower here because we don't fatten the animals in the traditional sense, but let them grow and lay their eggs in peace.
The orchard around our farm not only provides us with fruit, but is also home to many insects and animals. This biodiversity is particularly important to us.
The holiday home is currently being renovated and will be available from November 2024.
In summer, the children can make clay dumplings by the stream, build bridges, use the trampoline, swing or sandpit in the garden or simply roll down the meadow. As there is no road running past our farm, they are safe and "free". For the adults there are small, fine places to enjoy, sunbathe and drink coffee.
Our central location is of course ideal for excursions. There are many highlights that are very close by! For example, the city of Salzburg (2 km), the Salzkammergut (15 km), the Salzburg Lake District (10 km), the Königssee or the Eagle's Nest (31 km), the Eisriesenwelt Werfen (53 km), Hellbrunn Palace and Zoo (10 km), the Untersberg railway (15 km) and much more.
Our region is enchanted at Christmas time. The many different Advent markets directly by the lakes or in the city of Salzburg create a very special atmosphere. When it gets really cold, there are always opportunities for ice skating on the various lakes. The snow-covered winter landscape is best explored on foot, on cross-country skis or sitting by the tiled stove with a view of the snow-covered meadows.
We look forward to your visit! Contact us at any time so that we can answer any questions you may have.
Yours sincerely - the Leichtfried family
Our Carniolan stone sheep are very trusting, have excellent maternal instincts, are "weatherproof", robust and very uncomplicated. Due to their genetics, they are not suitable for intensive fattening, rather they develop their special meat quality through slower growth with extensive grazing without the addition of concentrated feed. Cleo, Lotti, Agatha, ... of course we know them all by name, they graze from April to November on changing paddocks and we only feed them our own hay in the barn. The little lambs are of course the highlight of our farm.
We have been keeping chickens since 2014 and they are a great joy to have around. They have a variety of sounds to communicate. Listening to them is like meditation. When they see or hear us, they always welcome us and are particularly interested in colourful things. We pull their chicken mobile from A to B and so they always have different opportunities to scratch, take a sand bath under the plum trees or peck for worms. They thank us with their wonderful behaviour and their delicious eggs.
Our grazing geese are one day old when they arrive at our farm. We raise them with great care, very gently, attentively and with selected feed for the first few weeks in the warm barn. As soon as their feathers grow, we slowly acclimatise them to the pasture by first putting them in a baby run and when their plumage is white and dense, they get to know the large pastures. They spend the whole day plucking grasses and herbs, dipping their heads into the deep drinking troughs and often chattering excitedly to themselves.
Our tomcat Georgy was already at the farm before us and lives outside, he is shy and yet very curious, elegant and wild, always there and then gone again - but it's best to get to know him yourself.
In summer, 5 Pinzgau heifers graze with us. This is a particularly beautiful breed of cattle, known for its exceptionally good meat and beauty.
