Gästehaus zur alten Buche

About Us
Our "Gästehaus zur alten Buche" is a lovingly restored old farmhouse for adults. It is nestled into the gentle landscape of a scattered settlement between the towns of Krems and Zwettl in the central Waldviertel. You will have the whole house to yourselves.
The building is surrounded by an orchard bearing a range of historic fruit varieties: from cherries, apples, pears and plums to nut trees. There is also a small flourishing garden with treats such as raspberries, strawberries and redcurrants - please help yourself!!
The newly constructed summer house with its adjacent barbecue area is the ideal location for many a sociable hour.
Whether you're a sun-worshipper or a shade-dweller, you're sure to find your own favourite spot.
Take just a few steps to the old beech tree and the peace and the expansive view will make your heart sing.
As a "bicycle-friendly" business, we have a provided a lockable area for you to park your bikes and tools for small repairs.
We can also arrange bike rentals upon request.
Parking for cars is available right in front of the building.
Have you got a tent?
Well, then just put it up in the garden, wherever you like. You will be able to enjoy the great outdoors, with incomparable starry skies on clear nights.
Take a break from your hectic day-to-day life and enjoy the peace and quiet - far away from crowds of tourists - or traditional farming crafts in a familial atmosphere.
Our community hosts recurring annual spring and autumn hiking excursions, hoisting-the-maypole festivities, and the traditional summer solstice bonfire. Or attend the fire brigade festival or taste the new local wines at the Heurige and meet new people.
With its central location, the guest house is ideally situated for a boat trip along the Danube through the Wachau, a visit to Göttweig Abbey or the Kittenberg Adventure Gardens, the Loisium, the Ottenstein reservoirs, Altenburg Abbey, ancient sites, brewery towns, the Sole-Felsen Spa and much, much more. Enjoy all the rich facets the Waldviertel has to offer, its gastronomic delights, culture, sports or love of nature. Everything is possible!
Availble for rental from mid-April to mid-November
We look forward to meeting you!

You will have the opportunity to taste and purchase a wide range of homemade produce from our farm, subject to the season:
- hens' and quails' eggs
- farmhouse bread baked in a natural stone oven
- potatoes - red and white-skinned
- seasonal fruit from the meadow orchard
- vegetables - from the farmhouse garden
- apple juice - apple cider
- grey poppy seeds from the Waldviertel
Roughly 80 ewes and their lambs are cared for at our farm. During the summer months, most of the animals live on the pasture, with only the mums, their lambs and the fattening lambs remaining at home.
Our cockerel "Fredi" protects our 15 laying hens, who are responsible for your breakfast eggs.
We also have a goose, a duck, three quails, a hare and the old house dog "Benno".
You are also welcome to accompany us into the barn during feeding at certain times.

Location & Directions
Waldviertel Region
Authentic experiences await you in the Waldviertel region, the north-western part of Lower Austria. Tall pine trees, reservoirs with an abundance of cool water and ancient castles are characteristic features of the landscape in the north. Fields of poppy that are bursting with colour add to the beauty of the scenery. At the same time, they provide the basic ingredient for culinary delicacies that the region is famous for. “Waldviertler Mohnnudeln” (sweet gnocchi with poppy seeds) is one of the signature dishes here.
