Landhaus-Lunkowitz

About Us
The Lunkowitz country house is a typical, regional, square-shaped farmhouse and is situated in a quiet, detached location in one of the upper Waldviertel’s most enchanting locations, between the cities of Gmünd, Schrems, Litschau, and Heidenreichstein. The house is geographically situated in the north-western part of the Austrian State of Lower Austria.
The name Lunkowitz country house originates from a brook, located near the house, named Lunkowitzbach, which flows through the Lainsitz, then Moldau, Elbe, and into the North Sea.
Nature-lovers, families, small groups, and business travellers alike are cordially welcome to the Lunkowitz country house, and will find space to stay the night, take a break, and relax.
People seeking peace and quiet can relax in the inner courtyard and/or meadows surrounding the house. Small on-site strolls lead to mystical rock formations, the nearby Brandteich (swimming pond with sunbathing area) and to the Brand location, where you can also do some shopping.
Furthermore, you also have the option of experiencing glass production craftsmanship, enjoying wellness in the Sole-Felsen Bad in Gmünd, going on bicycle excursions and/or small hikes in the Blockheide area in Gmünd, or the surrounding moors in Schrems or Heidenreichstein.
For cultural attractions, check out the Waldviertel Court Theatre, Pürbach; the Weitra palace; the Heidenreichstein castle; or the Waldviertel art museum, which is open year-round.
Weitra, Litschau offers golf courses and there is also a transnational golf course in Haugschlag.
The Waldviertel light railway route (NÖVOG) from Gmünd to Litschau closely passes by our holiday home as well. Scheduled trips are made here throughout the summer months.
You can take a historical trip through time in the Czech cities of Budweis, Trebon, or at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, “Cesky Krumlov”. All of the aforementioned cities are located in an area of approx. 60 km from the Lunkowitz country house
A cross-country ski trail goes directly past the farmyard in good snow conditions, allowing you to get on directly from the house.
A natural-stone gable has been installed in the breakfast area, creating a very comfortable ambiance with the originally-visible roof construction. This room is equipped with a tile cooker, natural wooden oak floors, and natural wooden furniture. Radio, TV, and Internet (WLAN) are also available for guests here.

Location & Directions
Waldviertel Region
Authentic experiences await you in the Waldviertel region, the north-western part of Lower Austria. Tall pine trees, reservoirs with an abundance of cool water and ancient castles are characteristic features of the landscape in the north. Fields of poppy that are bursting with colour add to the beauty of the scenery. At the same time, they provide the basic ingredient for culinary delicacies that the region is famous for. “Waldviertler Mohnnudeln” (sweet gnocchi with poppy seeds) is one of the signature dishes here.
