Landhof Unterkreuter

On the western edge of Carinthia...

...you’ll find Zwickenberg. The small village is nestled in the mountains at an altitude of 1,000 m. It’s accessible via a 5 km asphalt road. Life is idyllic here. Here, in the country, people have still got time. Time for peeping over the garden fence for a chat. People know each other and care about each other. There’s hardly any tourism.

Our country house “Landhof Unterkreuter”is located in the centre of Zwickenberg, so to speak. It’s surrounded by a few farmhouses and wide open fields, right next to the church of Saint Leonard.

On the second floor of our spacious house, we offer a large holiday apartment for a 6 people max. (three bedrooms with double bed and en-suite bathroom, a large living/kitchen area facing south and an additional living room). In addition, we offer a double room.

It’s a place where childhood memories are created and friends for life are made.

Mum and dad enjoy the afternoon relaxing on the comfort loungers in the meadow next to the farmhouse. Helga, the host, comes along on her way to the farmer’s garden to get some herbs and salad. The kids play basketball, soccer or badminton in front of the house. They’ve already made friends with the boys from the village. They draw a course on the street with some chalk and play hopscotch. Our guests’ kids often enjoy going around the hamlet of Zwickenberg on their own. Since there’s no through traffic, it’s safe to play and move around freely and to discover the area.

Central Location Ideal for Day Trips

Our country house “Landhof Unterkreuter” is located on a sunny terrace in an especially quiet setting above the Drautal valley. Still, the location is ideal for day trips: go swimming or hiking at Lake Weißensee, explore the countless mountains in western Carinthia such as the Hochstadl where you can have something to eat or drink in the mountain hut. Everything’s so close. It’s always worth rambling through the shopping town of Lienz with its Mediterranean flair. Oberdrauburg is only a 10 minutes’ drive from Zwickenberg. Here, you’ll find a public outdoor pool, museums, a grocery store, a few inns and restaurants serving local culinary delights such as “Kärntner Nudeln” (a cheese-filled type of pasta similar to ravioli).

It’s definitely worth exploring the alpine pastures and mountain cabins of Zwickenberg. The Gussger family owns the key for the road barrier. Thanks to this fact, our guests have exclusive access to the forest roads and can use them for free. Get ready for hiking up the summits of Scharnik or Damerkopf. On your way, you’ll pass idyllic Lake Wildsee. An iconic spot with no people around, only mountains and nature. On your way up the mountain Scharnik, you can stop by the mountain cabin “Gerbershütte”. Along the way, you can collect mushrooms and berries for dinner.

A farm keeping alpacas is very close. Of course, they also offer alpaca trekking tours. (More details: www.alpaka-zwickenberg.at, in German)
