About Us
The Schmiedhof Gut in the heart of Grossarl is a paradise for families, summer and winter.
The basis of our business is, of course, the farm, which has been family-owned for several generations. On our 20 ha of farming land, we produce all kinds of agricultural products that can be experienced and tasted during your stay here with us. An alpine grazing area at over 1200 m above sea level is likewise part of our property and well worth a visit.
Parking for cars is available free of charge, as is storage for bicycles and E-bikes. Meanwhile, our recharging stations for E-bikes and electric cars guarantee you will have all the power you need for an active vacation.
The kids fall in love with the playground and indoor playroom, while the swimming pond is definitely a highlight for big and small alike. For an additional fee, dogs are also welcome guests. Upon request, we are happy to provide you with food bowls as well as doggie baskets – simply contact us prior to arrival and let us know what you need.
Guests at the Schmiedhof Gut stay in our comfortable, traditional yet extremely modern apartments that we have painstakingly renovated and restored with attention to every small detail. The substance is traditional while the amenities are modern, so that you, as our guests, will want for nothing.
Have you already paid a visit to the animals on our farm? The horses, calves, rabbits et al look forward to meeting you. Stroke the ponies, lend us a hand in the barn or sign up for one of our guided pony rides.
Grossarltal is also known as the valley of mountain huts, with a number of great hikes and extended tours running right past the Schmiedhof Gut, including the famous “Panoramaweg”. Needless to say, a hike up to our own mountain hut is an absolute must.
Have you ever helped harvest the hay or “muck out” a barn? Not just something for kids to get excited about. Come and lend us a hand, immerse yourself completely in life on the farm, a lifestyle that has shaped our family for generations and is the foundation of what makes the Schmiedhof Gut so special. Bottom line: It’s great fun, pure and simple!
In winter, naturally, the playground and swimming pond go into hibernation, though there is definitely no shortage of things to do. In the barn and around the farm, lots of winter chores need to be taken care of and, once again, you are welcome to help out.
A winter trail ride is a great adventure, as is spending fun hours together with the ponies and other animals in the barn. You can set out on a sleigh ride or sledding expedition from right here at the farm; or on cross-country skis since a ski trail runs right past the farm.
The Grossarl ski area is just 3 km from the farm, with a free ski bus stopping 200 m from the farmhouse. So, grab your skis, a toboggan and a pair of warm boots – welcome to a winter holiday you will never forget.

Our farm boasts a long tradition of generating a wide selection of regional, high-quality products, a popular resource for locals who recognize the value of regionality. As our guests, you can likewise enjoy the benefits of authentic food production, picking and choosing from a pantry of products that practically overflows with the bounty of the Alps.
Our 7 dairy cows are always “hard at work” helping us produce extraordinarily healthful raw milk, while we are also well known for our great sausage and meat specialties. Our happy hens lay top-quality eggs whenever they are not roaming freely around the farm. Since summer 2021, we have also been producing homemade jams made from fruit grown right here on the farm. These vary according to season and demand. Needless to say, you can enjoy the fruit from our trees in their natural form, otherwise you will have to wait just a little while until we have produced our extraordinary jams or schnapps. The latter, incidentally, we make in our own schnapps distillery. Prost!
With 20 ha of farming land in total, all kinds of interesting animals make their homes here on our farm. We know each of them by name and invite you to get to know them personally, too.
Our dairy cows are nice ladies and hard-working milk producers, which you will taste for yourself at breakfast. Our young cattle and calves are highlights in their own right, very popular with the kids and always happy to greet visitors.
The same goes for the pigs here on our farm. They are as sweet as can be and love to have you help muck out their pens.
Our 2 lionhead rabbits are snuggly soft and just love to be stroked, as do the cats, though they are generally out exploring and not always easy to find. Our hens are also very active, they are not cooped up a henhouse, but rather are constantly out and about, strutting around the farmhouse – except when it’s time to lay eggs, in which case they return to the henhouse and lay the best eggs you could possibly imagine.
Since autumn 2020, we also have a pony at the farm who is always eager to set out on tours. Our Noriker mare is big and strong, used in winter for guided trail rides with our guests.
The Schmiedhof Gut in Grossarl is quite unique and an absolute paradise surrounded by glorious countryside. At our farm, we combine our farming tradition and a rich history with the modern Alpine-style comforts which our guests truly deserve. The moment you catch sight of the Schmiedhof Gut for the very first time, it becomes apparent that this building looks back on a long history. Every centimeter of our property, every corner of the farm, every person and every animal are part of this history. Become our guests and write your own chapter in the history of the Schmiedhof Gut - we look forward to seeing you here!
