About Us
From the moment you arrive, you will spend your holiday at the Unterviehhaushof in harmony with nature. Our organic farm, located at 1,060 m above sea level on a quiet, sunny hillside at the entrance to Grossarltal Valley, is convenient to reach, both summer and winter, by means of a well constructed supply lane (paved).
Far removed from any kind of traffic and with marvelous panoramic views of the surrounding mountain world, you will soon forget the stresses of daily life and rediscover a sense of inner peace.
But you won’t only have pure relaxation to look forward to during your stay. We can also promise all kinds of great activities for young and old alike. Here with us, in the heart of the Salzburg mountains, you will be an active part of daily life on the farm. We invite you to lend a hand with hay-making and cleaning out the barn, as well as feeding and petting the animals. Our farm lies in the midst of lush meadows, making it ideal for families with children. While children explore nature, mom and dad can unwind completely. So, why does a cow have so many stomachs? How is milk turned into butter and cheese? How much does a cow eat in a single day? During a farm holiday, so many fascinating questions spring to mind. And we are here to answer all of them!
We look forward to seeing you here!

Here, away from the busy ski slopes, you are able to enjoy intact, snow-covered landscapes. Our farm is an ideal base for backcountry ski tours as well as snowshoeing expeditions. For our smaller guests, we also have toboggans available to borrow for free whenever you wish. The big, snowy meadow in front of our Unterviehhaus Farm in Grossarl is ideal for building a snowman, along with lots of other kinds of fun in the snow.
Your host Sylvester Hettegger is a cross-country ski instructor, which means he is able to give you the opportunity to learn the basics of XC skiing in his very own cross-country school, or to perfect the skills you already have.
We look forward to seeing you here!

We make a variety of products from the milk produced on our farm. These include a type of cheese known as Sauerkas (literally “sour cheese”), which is especially suitable for calorie-conscious guests. We also process milk into curd cheese, butter and buttermilk. For our own mountain hut, we bake fresh bread several times a week. In autumn, we harvest rowanberries, used to make the rowanberry schnapps which is so popular in Grossarltal. In the springtime, we also distill an excellent fruit schnapps. All of our products can be bought right here on the farm, of course.

The Großarltal valley is known as the “valley of alpine pastures” for a good reason. In Großarl and Hüttschlag, more than 40 cosy mountain cabins are scattered across the alpine pastures. Take in the scent of wild flowers, enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view in the Hohe Tauern National Park and stop by one of the mountain cabins after hiking. Indulge in culinary delights such as home-made butter, cheese and freshly baked bread from the wood-fired oven. And in winter? Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, tobogganing or skiing are only a few of the outdoor activities. What else do you need for a great winter holiday?
